Today, the magic of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 came alive in the heart of Madrid as the second day of rehearsals kicked off at the Caja Mágica. With seventeen countries competing, the stakes have never been higher. Half of the participants took to the stage today, each given forty minutes to experiment, create, and make their mark before Saturday’s big event.
The rehearsal sessions, strictly closed to the press, offered a first look at how each act plans to dazzle the audience with their unique visual stories. However, fans didn’t have to wait long for a taste, as JuniorEurovision.tv has been teasing the public with captivating snapshots and short video clips from each country’s practice sessions.
Ireland opened the morning with an energetic performance by Enya Cox Dempsey, who was joined onstage by four dancers. This year marks Ireland’s boldest Junior Eurovision choreography, with designer Claire Garvey infusing the performance with vibrant colours and rhythmic movements. France followed, bringing their signature flair. Titouan and his five dancers hit the stage, equipped with custom-made drums and a stunning, all-white ensemble, designed by the celebrated choreographer Sabrina Lonis.
Poland brought nature to life with Dominik’s “All Together,” his stage decorated with serene images of birds and the sea, which created a poetic backdrop to his outfit in cream tones. San Marino, returning after a decade, showcased a contemporary look with Idols SM performing in matching leather jackets and grey jeans, choreographed by the acclaimed Nathalie Locheron.
The Netherlands transported viewers to a futuristic, neon-lit cityscape, adding two mirrors as part of the stage design for their song “Music.” Their group, Stay Tuned, combined graphic outfits with intricate choreography. Meanwhile, Germany’s Bjarne stayed true to the environmental message of his song “Save the Best for Us,” with earthy tones, green props, and five dancers joining him onstage.
Finally, Malta and Portugal delivered contrasting but equally emotional performances. Malta’s Ramires closed his rehearsal with fake snow and smoke effects, evoking a wintry fairytale, while Portugal’s Victoria Nicole ended the day with a soulful rendition of “Esperança.” Her ethereal green floral dress and a grand piano onstage gave a delicate, nostalgic touch to the evening.
Fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting the final, where all these remarkable acts will come together to shine in Madrid.
