Cyprus Returns to Junior Eurovision 2024 with Bright Young Talent

There’s a special kind of joy that comes from seeing young talent blossom, and this year, that joy is all the more vibrant as Cyprus makes its grand return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024. The excitement in the air is palpable, and for good reason. Representing Cyprus in Madrid on November 16th is the talented eleven-year-old Maria Pissarides from Nicosia—a young girl with a heart full of dreams and a voice ready to captivate the world.

A Bright Star in the Making

Maria’s journey to this stage is one filled with dedication and passion. As a student at a performing arts school in the UK, she’s been nurturing her talents far from home, preparing for a moment just like this. Her selection as Cyprus’ representative wasn’t just a stroke of luck; it was the result of a thoughtful and careful decision by the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) after they received a proposal from Chandal Entertainment Ltd. Maria has a special spark, and it’s clear that she’s ready to shine brightly on the international stage.

Guided by Experienced Hands

Behind every great performance is a team of dedicated professionals, and Maria is in the best of hands. The song she will perform has been composed and written by Sofia Patsalidou, a familiar name to those who follow Junior Eurovision. Sofia herself represented Cyprus in the same competition a decade ago, and now, in collaboration with Swedish producer Armin Gilani, she’s crafting a song that promises to be both powerful and memorable.

Bringing the performance to life is the acclaimed British artistic director Layla Ellison. With such a talented team guiding her, Maria’s performance is set to be a standout moment at this year’s Junior Eurovision.

A Moment to Dance and Dream

Adding to the excitement, auditions will soon be held to select the dancers who will join Maria on stage in Madrid. This is an incredible opportunity for young dancers to showcase their talent on an international platform, and it’s heart-warming to think of the joy and pride that will fill their hearts as they take the stage.

A Decade of Memories

As we look ahead to this year’s contest, it’s also a moment to reflect on Cyprus’ history at Junior Eurovision. This year marks Cyprus’ tenth participation in the competition, and while our best results were eighth place in 2004 and 2006, it’s the journey and the experiences that truly matter. Each young performer who steps onto that stage carries with them the hopes and dreams of a nation, and that’s a victory in itself.

As we eagerly anticipate November 16th, there’s a sense of pride and excitement that fills the air. We’ll be watching closely, cheering on Maria, and celebrating the courage and talent that she and her team bring to the stage.

Here’s to a wonderful performance, Maria, and to a bright future for Cyprus in Junior Eurovision!
