NRK Opens Submissions for MGP 2026: Norway’s Hunt for Eurovision Gold Begins

Ladies and gentlemen, sharpen your pencils, warm up those vocal cords, and polish your glitter boots – the road to Eurovision 2026 has officially opened in Norway. The Norwegian national broadcaster, NRK, has launched the submission period for Melodi Grand Prix 2026 (MGP), the nation’s beloved (and occasionally chaotic) pre-selection show.

From now until 1 September 2025, aspiring artists and songwriters can send in their original masterpieces via the official NRK portal. As always, there are a few rules to keep the Viking ship steady:

Key Rules to Keep in Mind:

  • Songs must be original and unpublished.
  • Maximum length: 3 minutes – not 3:01, we’re not animals.
  • At least one songwriter must hold Norwegian citizenship.
  • The performer must be 16 years or older by 1 January 2026.
  • Each composer may submit up to three songs.

Tarjei Strøm, the musical mastermind behind the competition, is on the lookout for «unforgettable hooks that echo across Europe» – which we assume means earworms, not literal fishing gear.

With NRK already confirming Norway’s participation in Eurovision 2026, set to be hosted in Austria, the race is on to find the next Alexander Rybak or, dare we say, Subwoolfer successor. Whether it’s a heartfelt ballad or a quirky synth-pop anthem about space bananas, the playing field is open.

So, will your track be the one to make Scandinavia proud? One thing’s for sure – MGP 2026 is shaping up to be another unmissable ride on the fjord of musical ambition.
