No Return to the Eurovision Stage: Andorra Pulls the Plug Once Again

It appears the Pyrenees are still silent when it comes to Eurovision. Andorran broadcaster RTVA has confirmed to the blog Eurofestivales that the microstate will not be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2026, set to take place in Austria. The official reason? A succinct “not aligned with our current editorial line.” A phrase that says everything and nothing, really.

In what might have been a plot twist worthy of a midday telenovela, rumours had been swirling that TV3, the public broadcaster of Catalonia, had floated a collaborative proposal: the winner of Eufòria, their popular talent show, would don the tricolour for Andorra and serenade Europe. But alas, the plan seems to have vanished into the thin Pyrenean air.

Andorra made its Eurovision debut back in 2004 and remained a faithful contestant until 2009. Sadly, despite their valiant efforts—and in one instance, a very enthusiastic teenage pop-punk band—they never managed to reach the Grand Final. Their best shot? A modest 12th place in the semi-final, courtesy of Anonymous and their endearingly rebellious anthem “Salvem el món.”

So once again, Andorra says “no, thank you” to Eurovision. And Europe, ever the sentimental ex, replies: “Are you sure, love? We could have made it work…”
