Luxembourg’s Eurovision Songwriting Camp: Crafting the Sound of a Triumphant Return

As Luxembourg sharpens its focus for Eurovision 2025, it seems the nation is putting its trust in the power of collaboration and creativity. From the 27th to the 30th of September, the Rocklab in Esch-Belval became a hive of musical innovation as it hosted the Eurovision Songwriting Camp. Twenty musicians, selected from over 80 applicants, were tasked with crafting and producing a complete song in just eight hours. This intensive weekend was not just an opportunity to create Eurovision magic, but a chance for local talent to step into the global spotlight.

The Heart of the Songwriting Camp

The camp wasn’t just a creative exercise – it was a hub of mentorship, guided by seasoned professionals like Greig Watts, an expert in the Eurovision scene who has worked on no less than 12 songs for the contest over the last eight years. Joining him was Linda Dale, co-writer of Luxembourg’s Eurovision 2024 entry, “Fighter”, finishing 12th in the grand finale.

The camp saw notable Luxembourgish artists like Joel MarquesCHAiLD, and Edson honing their craft alongside newer talents. Virginie Ranaivoson, a budding songwriter since 2020, reflected on how the camp had changed her trajectory: “I’ve written songs for years, but this was my first chance to actually produce one professionally.”

Luxembourg’s Eurovision Journey: From Victory to Revival

Luxembourg’s history with Eurovision is nothing short of remarkable. The nation has won the contest an impressive five times, with its golden era stretching from 1961 to 1983. Iconic winners such as France Gall and Vicky Leandros not only secured victory but also carved Luxembourg’s name into Eurovision lore

After a long hiatus from the Eurovision Song Contest, Luxembourg made its triumphant return in 2024. Tali represented the nation with her powerful song «Fighter», a striking performance that saw her finish in 12th place in the grand final. This marked a moment of pride for the Grand Duchy, which had not competed since 1993.

Looking Ahead to Eurovision 2025

The Eurovision Songwriting Camp is emblematic of Luxembourg’s renewed commitment to the competition. By fostering collaboration between established musicians and emerging artists, the country is not just aiming for a solid entry, but for Eurovision glory.

With Basel set to host Eurovision in 2025, the question on everyone’s lips is: can Luxembourg reclaim its former glory? If the energy and creativity at the Rocklab Songwriting Camp are anything to go by, Luxembourg is certainly on the right path.

The excitement is building. As fans wait to hear the fruits of this musical camp, one thing is clear: Luxembourg is back, and it’s ready to make its mark. Will the next Eurovision champion come from the small, resilient country that once dominated the contest? We will soon find out.
