Austria’s Big Eurovision Gamble: Who Will Dazzle Europe This Year?

With Eurovision fever rising, Austria’s Eurovision dreams for 2025 are taking shape. And while Germany has roped in Stefan Raab as its strategic mastermind, Austria’s ORF is keeping a tight lid on its chosen few for Basel, leaving fans hungry for clues.

Rumours are swirling around talents like Johannes Pietsch, who’s itching for his shot on Europe’s stage. With a voice honed from opera house to pop stage, this “Starmania” alum could bring an elegance and passion only Vienna can offer. Pietsch, who grew up in Dubai, found his first love for music through Mozart’s The Magic Flute, an experience he credits for setting him on his musical path. Just imagine – a performer like him crooning an anthem that could unite Europe!

And then there’s Kayla Krystin, the 29-year-old Tyrolean powerhouse. With four singles to her name, including the slick “Queen of Hearts,” Kayla has already found love in the airplay charts in the U.S. and Australia. Fresh off a gig opening for the Jackson 3 in Munich, she’s proving that soul is the universal language. A voice like hers? Eurovision-worthy for sure.

But this line-up doesn’t stop with Austria’s most soulful divas. Philip Piller, the bilingual sensation from Bavaria, is also eyeing Basel. Piller’s dreams for a German-language Eurovision hit could just shake up the stage. And then there’s Dominic “Dodo” Muhrer of the Makemakes, famously Austria’s zero-pointer back in 2015, ready for redemption. This time, he’s promising to embrace his Salzburg dialect, bringing a local twist with international appeal.

Adding even more flavour is Christian Kerschner, known as Nnoa, the electro-pop R&B queen with roots in DelaDap, who’s already made waves with her feel-good anthem “UFO.” Nnoa’s fresh sound could be just what the ORF needs to shake up Eurovision’s traditional ballad-heavy line-up.

Austria’s selection committee, led by ORF Programme Director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz, has quite the task – and fans are champing at the bit. Can Austria wow Europe this year? We’ll find out soon enough – and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
