The iconic Nokia Arena in Tampere lit up tonight as UMK 2025, Finland’s preselection for Eurovision, delivered a final full of surprises and high-octane performances. Hosted by Sanni and Yasmin Beloued, the event saw six finalists battling it out in a contest that combined innovation with a nod to the past.
The evening kicked off with a brief callback to the previous edition as last year’s winner set the stage, paving the way for tonight’s fierce competition. Among the standout performances, Costee opened with the introspective “Sekaisin,” accompanied by abstract visuals that mesmerised the crowd. Neea River then turned up the energy with her electrifying rendition of “Nightmares,” proving her status as one of the evening’s front-runners.
Goldielocks brought an inventive twist with “Made Of,” performing inside a giant rotating wheel—a visual feast that symbolised the creative spirit of UMK. VIIVI delivered the gentle ballad “Aina,” offering a moment of understated beauty that contrasted sharply with the more dynamic acts.
Perhaps the most poignant performance came from Nelli Matula. Dressed in striking red and accompanied by an evocative dance routine, her interpretation of “Hitaammin hautaan” stirred deep emotion among those in attendance. However, it was Erika Vikman who stole the show. Closing the night with “Ich Komme,” she mesmerised everyone with a performance that was both sensual and commanding. Her magnetic presence and flawless delivery earned her the highest televote—362 points—resulting in a total of 430 points when combined with the jury’s scores.
The official verdict saw the jury’s votes favouring various acts, but the public vote ultimately propelled Erika Vikman to victory. With her win, she now carries Finland’s hopes to Eurovision 2025 in Basel, set for May. Her bold, risk-taking performance signals a new era for Finnish music, as the nation prepares to make a statement on Europe’s grandest stage.
