The Return of the Kingmaker: Stefan Raab’s Eurovision Quest to Find Germany’s Next Star

In a turn that has Eurovision fans buzzing, the legendary Stefan Raab has partnered with ARD and RTL for “Chefsache ESC 2025,” a bold and unprecedented venture to find Germany’s next Eurovision sensation. The national selection, set for a thrilling four-show run starting in February 2025, is promising a spectacle like no other, with Raab himself returning to the judging panel alongside beloved host Barbara Schöneberger.
With applications open until late November, hopes are high that the renewed effort will inject the powerhouse energy Germany has been craving since Raab’s involvement in Lena’s 2010 Eurovision win. Over four primetime shows, Raab and his co-judges will face the daunting task of narrowing down a pool of 24 performers. The selection will lead to a final broadcast live from Hürth, where the German public will decide which act will bring the nation pride in Basel.
ARD Program Director Christine Strobl and RTL’s Chief Content Officer Inga Leschek are equally enthusiastic, each seeing the partnership as a chance to reimagine Eurovision for Germany. “We’re bringing our absolute best to the table, with Stefan Raab on board – someone who doesn’t just love Eurovision but knows how to win,” Strobl shared.
Raab, true to form, isn’t shy about his ambitions. «If we don’t win,» he jokes, «you’re welcome to hold me accountable!» As Germany seeks to regain its competitive edge, one thing is certain: Raab’s return has made the journey to Basel one to watch.
