Italy, Brace Yourself: Gabry Ponte Brings «Tutta l’Italia» from San Marino to Eurovision

After six grueling qualification rounds and over 1,000 applications, tonight the Teatro Nuovo in Dogana (San Marino) hosted the San Marino Song Contest, presented by Francesco Facchinetti and Rosa Canto. The evening turned into a “mini Sanremo” as 20 acts—mostly Italian—battled fiercely for the coveted ticket to Basel.

And the winner is…

After more than three hours of show, the microstate’s jury has declared that DJ Gabry Ponte will represent San Marino at Eurovision with the dance-patriotic anthem «Tutta l’Italia».
The final ranking was as follows:

  • Gabry Ponte – “Tutta l’Italia”
  • The Rumpled – “You Get Me So High”
  • Teslenko – “Storm”
  • Elasi – “LORELLA”
  • Boosta – “BTW”
  • Besa – “Tiki”
  • CRL – “Juliet”
  • Giacomo Voli – “Ave Maria”
  • Questo e Quello – “Bella balla”
  • Paco – “Until the end”
  • Pierdavide Carone – “Mi vuoi sposare?”
  • Marco Carta – “Solo fantasia”
  • Angy Sciacqua – “I” (tied with Haymara)
  • Haymara – “Tomame las manos” (tied with Angy Sciacqua)
  • Silvia Salemi – “Coralli”
  • Bianca Atzei – “Testacoda”
  • Vincenzo Capua – “Sei sempre tu”
  • King Foo – “The edge of the world”
  • Taoma – “NPC”
  • Luisa Corna – “Il giorno giusto”

Gabry Ponte now steps into the shoes of the Spanish group Megara, who missed the final last year with «11:11». San Marino will compete in the first semi-final on Tuesday, 13 May, where Italy will also cast its vote, and with this anthem, perhaps the Italians will rally behind their small but mighty neighbour.
