One Morning Left Will Not Continue in the Contest for  UMK!

Chaos at UMK: One Morning Left Disqualified Amid Controversy, Band Breaks Up

Finland’s celebrated Contest for New Music UMK has been rocked by a scandal. The heavy-metalcore band One Morning Left, once considered a fan-favourite, has been disqualified just weeks before the grand final on 8 February at Nokia Arena, Tampere. According to Yle, the group was removed due to a violation of the competition’s strict rules.

The decision, as confirmed by UMK‘s executive producer Anssi Autio, was also tied to Eurovision’s regulatory framework. “It’s disappointing that One Morning Left won’t be part of UMK this year. Their breach of both UMK and EBU’s Eurovision rules left us no alternative,” said Autio.

The announcement has sent shockwaves through the music world. Fans of the band have expressed both outrage and heartbreak on social media. To add to the drama, One Morning Left announced their dissolution shortly after the disqualification was made public. In a statement posted on their Instagram, the band said, «It’s been a wild ride, but this chapter ends here. We’re grateful for everything our fans have given us.»

The departure leaves this year’s UMK with six remaining competitors, all vying for the chance to represent Finland at Eurovision 2025. Per the contest’s rules, no replacement will be added, meaning one fewer act will take the stage.

Despite the turmoil, excitement for UMK25 remains high. The show promises an electrifying evening of performances and will be streamed internationally via Yle Areena with English commentary. While One Morning Left may have exited dramatically, the spotlight is now firmly on the remaining six acts. Source: YLE
