They came, they saw, they… vanished. But after nearly a decade off the grid, Montenegro is officially back in the Junior Eurovision bubble, and we’re already dusting off the confetti.

The Balkan nation, which last graced the Junior Eurovision stage in 2015, has confirmed its return for the 2025 contest in Tbilisi, Georgia. That’s right – Montenegro is re-entering the glitter-splashed arena of tiny power ballads and precocious pyrotechnics.

And what a time to come back. Georgia, last year’s winner in Madrid, will host the show for the fourth time – clearly, they’re going for the “permanent residency” award. The event will take place at the Olympic Palace in Tbilisi, with at least 12 countries already confirmed and more expected to follow.

But let’s talk Montenegro. Their last appearance was in 2015, when kids still played with fidget spinners and TikTok was but a glint in an app developer’s eye. Fast-forward to 2025, and Montenegro’s comeback signals a renewed push to showcase young talent and put Montenegrin music back on the international radar.

The voting system remains a charming cocktail of chaos – 50% jury votes, 50% online public vote. And yes, fans worldwide will once again be allowed to vote for their own country (because objectivity is so 2010).

So, what can we expect from Montenegro this time? A heartfelt Balkan ballad? A turbo-folk revival for the under-14s? A pre-teen with lungs bigger than Lake Skadar? Only time (and the NRCT’s internal selection committee) will tell.

But one thing’s for sure: Montenegro’s return is music to our ears – and possibly a few dramatic key changes too.
