Laura Thorn Crowned Luxembourg’s Eurovision Star Amidst a Night of Surprises and Nostalgia

The Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette was ablaze with energy and emotion tonight as Luxembourg chose its Eurovision representative for 2025. Laura Thorn, with her electrifying performance of «La poupée monte le son«, clinched the top spot, securing her ticket to Basel. The gala was an exquisite celebration of music, memories, and heartfelt moments that left no eye dry and no heart untouched.

A Night That Brought History to Life

The evening opened with a stunning ensemble performance of «Fighter», led by last year’s representative, TALI, alongside the seven finalists. The song, which marked Luxembourg’s long-awaited return to Eurovision after 31 years, set a tone of pride and celebration.

Hosts Raoul Roos and Loïc Juchem seamlessly guided the audience through the programme before introducing a surprise addition to the presenting line-up: Conchita Wurst. The 2014 Eurovision winner captivated with a flawless rendition of «Rise Like a Phoenix», adding a touch of grandeur to an already spectacular night.

The Performances: A Kaleidoscope of Talent

First on stage was Rafa Ela, who commanded attention with her pop-dance anthem «No, Thank You». Accompanied by vibrant LED visuals and synchronized dancers, her act was a punchy opener.

Rhythmic Soulwaves followed with «Stronger», a soul-infused track that filled the venue with warmth and empowerment. Digital butterflies flitted across the stage, creating an ethereal visual experience.

Next, rapper Luzac delivered «Je danse«, a French-language track performed against a stark, prison-inspired backdrop in shades of green. The gritty aesthetic contrasted with the uplifting rhythm of his song.

One Last Time took the stage with «Gambler’s Song», a rock piece accompanied by dynamic projections of playing cards and roulette wheels. Mäna then delivered an emotional performance of her gospel-inspired ballad «Human Eyes», her voice soaring under a shower of digital stardust.

The night’s favourite, Laura Thorn, delivered a dazzling homage to Luxembourg’s Eurovision legacy with «La poupée monte le son», a modern tribute to France Gall’s iconic «Poupée de cire, poupée de son». Her charisma and stage presence brought the crowd to its feet.

Finally, Zero Point Five closed the competition with «Ride«, a folksy anthem that evoked the sounds of Of Monsters and Men, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Nostalgia and Unexpected Romance

The highlight of the evening was the return of Eurovision legend Marie Myriam. Her heartfelt rendition of «L’enfant et l’oiseau» transported the audience back to 1977, when France last claimed Eurovision glory. Meanwhile, TALI also graced the stage with her latest single, «Dear Parents», written by France’s Barbara Pravi.

But the most surprising moment occurred in the audience, where a romantic marriage proposal drew cheers and tears, adding a deeply personal touch to the proceedings.

And the Winner Is…

When the votes were tallied, Laura Thorn emerged victorious with 180 points, combining the international jury’s 94 points and a strong televote showing. Zero Point Five came second with 126 points, and Luzac placed third with 93 points.

With this triumph, Laura Thorn now carries Luxembourg’s hopes to Basel, aiming to bring home the coveted Eurovision trophy.
