“I’ve Already Done It With Pain”: Eleni Foureira Opens Up About a Eurovision Return

Eleni Foureira, the fiery queen of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, may have set the stage ablaze with “Fuego”, but when asked if she’d return to the world’s glitziest musical spectacle, her answer is more “meh” than “olé”.
In a recent interview with Greek radio station Dromos 89.8, the Cypriot-Albanian pop powerhouse admitted that a second shot at Eurovision glory might not be in the cards. And no, it’s not because she’s out of sequins.
“I don’t know if I would go to Eurovision again,” she confessed. “When you’ve already done it with so much pain and so much effort and it went so well, I don’t know if there’s anything else left to give.”
A painful triumph? Quite possibly. Foureira’s iconic 2018 performance landed Cyprus its best-ever result: second place — behind Israel’s Netta — and a new place in Eurovision legend. But the glamour and flames, it turns out, came at a price.
Since then, life has taken a new turn for the singer. Now a mother, Eleni is embracing a different kind of stage: family life. And while her fans still chant for a Eurovision comeback, she seems content passing the torch (or the “fuego”) to the next generation of hopefuls.
Eurovision, Once Bitten?
The idea of returning to Eurovision isn’t off the table entirely — just perhaps not at the top of her priority list. After all, once you’ve danced in thigh-high boots for 200 million viewers, how do you top that?
Still, the question lingers in every fan’s heart: Could she do it again? Perhaps. But as Foureira herself hints, when you’ve already given it your all — with a side of heartbreak and glitter-induced exhaustion — maybe it’s best to leave the fire where it burned brightest.
For now, Eleni remains one of Eurovision’s eternal icons, and no matter what, Fuego will continue to light up playlists — and pre-party dance floors — across the continent.
