France Télévisions has officially confirmed that France will compete at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna, joining the growing list of broadcasters returning for the competition’s historic 70th edition.

In a statement released on social media, the French public broadcaster declared:

“France Télévisions is pleased to confirm its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 on May 16 in Vienna, alongside fellow public service media members of the EBU. The group reaffirms its support for musical creation, to artists and for this unique event.”

The announcement confirms France’s continued commitment to artistic diversityEuropean collaboration, and musical excellence — even amid ongoing debates surrounding Israel’s potential participation.

Selection Method Still Under Wraps

France Télévisions has yet to reveal how it will select its entry for Eurovision 2026. Since 2023, France has opted for an internal selection process, moving away from the televised national final format (Eurovision France: C’est vous qui décidez!) used between 2018 and 2022.

While no details are confirmed yet, rumours suggest that the broadcaster is exploring fresh creative partnerships to celebrate Eurovision’s 70th anniversary — a fitting milestone for one of the contest’s founding members.

A Constant Voice in Eurovision History

France has been one of Eurovision’s most iconic nations, participating in almost every edition since the contest began in 1956. The country has won five times, though its last victory came in 1977 with Marie Myriam’s “L’oiseau et l’enfant.”

With Vienna 2026 marking the 70th anniversary, fans are already speculating that France Télévisions might aim for a symbolic, high-impact return to form.
