Flames, Sorcery, and Pirate Pop: Norway’s MGP 2025 Crowns Kyle Alessandro as Eurovision’s Next Firestarter»

Oslo was ablaze last night as Melodi Grand Prix 2025 took centre stage, selecting Norway’s next Eurovision act in a dazzling spectacle of heavy metal, epic pop, and a dash of ’80s nostalgia. Hosted by Markus Neby, Marte Stokstad, and Tete Lidbom at the Spektrum, the night delivered a rollercoaster of contrasts. In the end, Kyle Alessandro emerged victorious with Lighter, a dance-pop anthem that set the televote on fire
A Night of Flames, Enchantment, and Theatrics
Tone Damli – Last Song
Opening the night with a radiant pop number, Tone was flanked by dancers and cityscape projections.
Sondrey – Vagabond
Performing against a backdrop of an empty house and accompanied by four dancers, Sondrey’s melancholic pop-dance ballad felt like the soundtrack to a lonely night train journey.
Nora Jabri – Sulale
Draped in sorceress chic and surrounded by dancers, Nora blended English and Arabic into a hypnotic pop ritual. A looming staircase added an air of ancient mysticism.
Wig Wam – Human Fire
Norway’s metal titans literally set the stage on fire. Screaming guitars, pyrotechnics, and an electrified crowd.
LLL – Parasite
Dancers dressed as parasites, dim lighting, and an eerie soundscape created a Black Mirror fever dream.
Kyle Alessandro – Lighter
The favourite of the night. Sporting a futuristic armour suit and a burning village as his backdrop, Kyle delivered flawless choreography and an irresistible hook. “Norway doesn’t want to just take part, they want to win,” fans chanted on social media.
Nataleen – The Game
A silver-clad, geometric spectacle, with Pirates of the Caribbean energy.
Ladybug – Hot as Hell in Paradise
Acrobatic dancers suspended from rings and a digital storm made for a visually chaotic rock-pop number, though the song struggled to rise above the special effects.
Bobbysocks – Joyful
The 1985 Eurovision winners closed the night with a joyful, nostalgic performance. “Norway needs more joy, less fire,” mused a viewer.
A Landslide Victory for Kyle Alessandro
Following a show-stopping interval act by Gåte (MGP 2024 winners) and Swedish twins Marcus & Martinus (Eurovision 2024), the moment of truth arrived: the votes.
An international jury of experts from 15 countries awarded Kyle Alessandro 118 points, placing him far ahead of Nataleen (86 points) and Nora Jabri (55 points). But it was the Norwegian public that sealed his fate—the televote didn’t just confirm the jury’s decision; it delivered a landslide win.
What Does This Mean for Norway at Eurovision?
With Lighter, Norway is playing a winning game: razor-sharp choreography, striking visuals, and a chorus that burrows into your brain. Kyle Alessandro not only has the stage presence to command Basel 2025, but also the ambition to turn his ‘burning village’ into an iconic Eurovision moment.
However, he will be up against powerful ballads and eccentric contenders. But if anyone can set the European televote ablaze, it’s him.
