Eurovision 2026: Vienna Promises a Week-Long Spectacle for Fans and the City Alike

Get ready, Eurovision fans: Vienna isn’t just hosting the 70th Eurovision Song Contest — it’s planning to turn the entire city into a giant celebration of music, lights, and unapologetic glitter.
Mayor Michael Ludwig has unveiled the first details of what visitors can expect next May, and if you thought Basel 2025was big… Vienna is coming for the crown.
The Beating Heart of Eurovision 2026: Rathausplatz Goes Full Glam
Vienna’s Rathausplatz will become the epicentre of Eurovision magic with a week-long Eurovision Village, open from 10 to 17 May, every day from 11:00 until midnight.
The highlights?
- Turquoise Carpet Ceremony on 10 May, where all delegations will strut past thousands of screaming fans.
- Live screenings of both semi-finals (12 & 14 May) and the Grand Final (16 May) under Vienna’s stars.
- DJs, live performances, and free side events across the entire week.
“Eurovision belongs to everyone — whether you’ve got a golden ticket or not,” said Mayor Ludwig. “Our goal is to make the biggest music event in the world an experience for everyone, regardless of their financial means.”
Beyond the Arena: Food, Lights & Free Parties
Eurovision in Vienna isn’t stopping at the Wiener Stadthalle. The Eurovision Village promises ten food stands serving everything from Austrian classics to international street food, prepared live before your eyes — with a strong focus on sustainability.
And because no Eurovision is complete without drama and spectacle, the Wiener Rathaus will be wrapped in mesmerising light shows synced to music, creating an Insta-worthy backdrop every night.
Big Numbers, Bigger Impact
Vienna isn’t just staging Eurovision; it’s betting big on it. According to a new study by EcoAustria, the contest is expected to bring:
- 88,000 extra visitors to Vienna
- €21 million in local spending
- An estimated €52 million economic boost
- And a whopping €730 million media value for Austria
Put simply: every €1 invested brings back €1.70. Not bad for a week of sequins and high notes.
