Benidorm Fest 2026: Bigger, Bolder, and Ready to Make Noise

Mark your calendars: Benidorm Fest 2026 is set to light up Spain on 10, 12 and 14 February, and RTVE promises the fifth edition will be its most ambitious yet. At a media breakfast in Madrid, César Vallejo (Head of Spain’s Eurovision Delegation and Director of Benidorm Fest) and María Eizaguirre (RTVE’s Director of Communication) unveiled a bold new vision: transforming the festival into a brand with its own identity while keeping the road to Eurovision 2026 in Vienna firmly in sight.
A Eurovision-Level Production
This edition brings an upgraded experience designed to mirror the production standards of Eurovision itself:
- Audience-packed rehearsals ahead of the live shows.
- Extra rehearsal time for all artists.
- Vocal reliability checks: if RTVE isn’t convinced, contestants will face live auditions to prove their pipes.
“We want Benidorm Fest to be more than just a pre-selection,” explained César Vallejo. “It’s about giving artists everything they need to shine — and making fans proud before we even land in Vienna.”
Earlier Artist Reveals, Songs Before Christmas
Unlike previous years, RTVE will reveal the full lineup in early October, one month earlier than usual, giving artists more time to prepare staging and concepts.
Even better: fans will get to hear the Benidorm Fest 2026 songs before Christmas — an early gift for Eurovision obsessives.
Staging Overhaul: Less Talent Show, More Eurovision
Biggest visual change? RTVE is ditching the “talent show” aesthetic.
- The jury will stay but lose visual dominance, making room for more audience energy.
- The new stage design, inspired by Benidorm’s Mirador del Castillo and Rosa de los Vientos, features a pentagonal platform and two sleek catwalks.
- Artistic director Sergio Jaén leads staging concepts, joined by choreographer Borja Rueda to elevate live performances.
Road to Vienna 2026
RTVE confirmed that the deadline to submit materials for Eurovision 2026 is 9 March. The winner of Benidorm Fest 2026 will arrive in Vienna with their staging nearly performance-ready.
- If the winning act works with Sergio Jaén, he’ll direct the staging at Eurovision, too.
- If the act opts for its own creative team, RTVE promises full artistic freedom — a big shift towards empowering the artists.
Spain, Eurovision and the Israel Debate
While the festival moves full steam ahead, Spain’s Eurovision 2026 participation remains uncertain. RTVE has pushed the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to debate Israel’s presence in Vienna due to the ongoing Gaza conflict.
A final decision is expected by December 2025. No matter the outcome, RTVE has confirmed:
“Benidorm Fest 2026 goes on — with or without Eurovision.”
