AVROTROS Returns to Eurovision 2025: Considerable Changes, New Hope

After months of anticipation and intense discussions, AVROTROS has officially confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2025, which will take place in Switzerland. The Dutch broadcaster, alongside other countries, has been pushing for structural changes to the competition since last year’s edition in Malmö. With new measures in place, including a «safe space» for artists and the appointment of Martin Green as the new Eurovision Director, AVROTROS looks forward to a revitalized competition.
A New Era for Eurovision?
In the aftermath of Eurovision 2024, where tensions ran high both on and off-stage, AVROTROS was among the broadcasters that demanded serious reform. The key issue? The safety and well-being of the artists. With incidents like the one involving Dutch artist Joost Klein—who chose not to return for 2025 after a controversy with a camerawoman—it was clear that change was needed.
Fast-forward to today, and AVROTROS is optimistic. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has introduced several new initiatives designed to improve the behind-the-scenes experience for artists. For starters, a «safe space» will be created, where performers can retreat without the prying eyes of cameras. Additionally, a dedicated safety manager will be appointed to oversee artist well-being.
To ensure transparency and fairness in decision-making, a crisis team will also be formed, consisting of representatives from the EBU, participating countries, and the host broadcaster. These changes aim to make Eurovision a safer, more inclusive event.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As AVROTROS prepares for Eurovision 2025, they have officially opened submissions for the Dutch entry. Artists, composers, and producers are invited to submit original songs that reflect the unique Dutch spirit, with a deadline of November 22. The broadcaster is looking for fresh, competitive tracks that can stand out on the international stage.
With a fresh team, new rules, and a commitment to making the contest better for everyone involved, Eurovision 2025 promises to be a turning point. Will these changes bring the Dutch back to victory? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: AVROTROS is ready to make its mark.
