Zürich Aims for Eurovision 2025 Final on May 17th

Known for its prowess in organizing major events, Zürich boasts unparalleled infrastructure with its international airport and central railway hub, ensuring seamless accessibility for both national and international guests. The city offers various venues, including the Hallenstadion, Landiwiese by the lake, and the Kongresshaus, all ideal for hosting the grand spectacle of Eurovision.
The city council has proposed a budget of 20 million Swiss francs to orchestrate the event, highlighting its commitment to making Eurovision 2025 a resounding success. Similarly, the cantonal government has expressed enthusiasm, seeking a support credit of 5 million Swiss francs from the Charitable Fund, underscoring the widespread benefits anticipated for the region.
However, with the scale of Eurovision comes heightened security demands, impacting the entire canton. The cantonal police anticipate significant challenges with increased traffic and parallel events throughout the region. These additional security measures are estimated to require an additional budget of approximately 3 million Swiss francs, pending approval through a supplementary credit.
As discussions intensify within the municipal council, different factions weigh in on the bid’s merits. While some emphasize the logistical advantages and potential economic boost, others see it as an opportunity to advance social causes, echoing Nemo‘s call for gender-neutral policies.
The official dates for Eurovision 2025 remain unconfirmed, with reports suggesting a likely timeframe between May 11th and 18th. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and SRG-SSR are expected to announce the finalized dates following today’s deadline for city submissions.
