Switzerland Gears Up for Eurovision 2025: Host City Contenders and Preparations Underway

Switzerland, buoyed by Nemo’s recent victory at Eurovision 2024, is already making strides in preparing to host next year’s contest. The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG) has formed a twelve-member task force the day after their win, aiming to ensure the country delivers an exemplary event.

Potential Host Cities

Geneva, Basel, and St. Gallen have expressed their interest in hosting Eurovision 2025. To make the final decision, SRG will refer to the City Bid Book, a document from the EBU outlining the requirements for a host city. Each interested city must submit a comprehensive dossier with relevant information by the end of June.

The criteria for selection include:

  • Hotel capacity to accommodate visitors and delegations.
  • Proximity to an international airport for easy access.
  • Availability of venues with adequate capacity for the event’s activities.

The selected city will be announced at the end of August.

Progress in Planning

Beyond choosing the host city, SRG is also addressing other critical technical aspects. Various key roles have been appointed, such as:

  • Production Director
  • Show Producer
  • Content Producer
  • Head of Security
  • Marketing Director

These teams will work closely with the EBU, which will provide expertise and guidance to ensure the event’s success. Additionally, external professionals will be involved in subsequent phases of the planning process.

Switzerland’s Eurovision Legacy

Nemo’s victory in 2024 marks Switzerland’s third win at Eurovision. The country previously won in 1956 with Lys Assia in the first-ever edition of the contest, and again in 1988 with Céline Dion. Now, Switzerland is set to host the event for the third time, having previously held it in Lugano (1956) and Lausanne (1989).

Switzerland is determined to seize this opportunity to shine once more on the international stage, showcasing its organisational capabilities and celebrating its Eurovision heritage. With these preparations underway, the country is positioning itself as a committed and enthusiastic host for the 2025 edition.
