«Stay Tuned to Shine: The Netherlands Gears Up for Junior Eurovision 2024 with ‘Music’»

There is something undeniably magical about the stage at Junior Eurovision—a place where youthful dreams are transformed into reality, and where songs can carry the hopes of a nation. For the Netherlands, that magic is being rekindled this year as the group Stay Tuned prepares to represent the country in Madrid with their uplifting song Music. A heartfelt celebration of rhythm, harmony, and the universal language that connects us all, this entry promises to capture the hearts of audiences far and wide.

On a lively evening at the RTM Stage in Rotterdam Ahoy, the final of Junior Songfestival 2024 took place, and the excitement was palpable. Four talented acts, each radiating enthusiasm and dreams, competed for the honour of representing the Netherlands on the Junior Eurovision stage. Hosted by former Junior Eurovision participants Stefania Liberakakis and Matheu Hinzen, the evening was a beautiful tribute to the country’s proud tradition in the competition.

A Journey Through Song: The Netherlands at Junior Eurovision

The Netherlands holds a special place in Junior Eurovision history, being the only country to participate every single year since the contest’s inception in 2003. It has become a steady beacon of talent and creativity, nurturing young performers and giving them the chance to shine on an international stage. Over the years, the country has produced various entries, ranging from catchy pop tunes to emotionally poignant ballads, reflecting the rich diversity of Dutch musical culture.

One of the Netherlands’ proudest moments came in 2009, when Ralf Mackenbach wowed the continent with his energetic performance of Click Clack”, earning the country its first victory in the contest. His infectious enthusiasm and impressive dance moves captivated audiences and set a new benchmark for Dutch entries in Junior Eurovision.

In the years that followed, the Netherlands continued to impress, consistently finishing in the top 10 and establishing itself as one of the most consistent performers in the contest. In 2011, the charming girl group Rachel won hearts with “Teenager”, earning a second-place finish. This blend of fun, youthfulness, and raw talent has become a hallmark of Dutch entries.

Last year, the duo Sep & Jasmijn brought their touching song “Holding On to You” to the stage in Yerevan. With their heartfelt lyrics and captivating harmonies, they secured a respectable 7th place finish, continuing the Netherlands’ legacy of strong performances.

Stay Tuned: A New Chapter of Hope and Harmony

Now, in 2024, Stay Tuned is ready to continue that legacy. With their song “Music”, they deliver a message of unity and the power of melody to bring people together. Comprised of young talents with a passion for performance, Stay Tunedstood out in the Junior Songfestival final not just for their musical abilities, but for the sheer joy and energy they brought to the stage.

The competition itself was fiercely close, with votes split between the children’s jury, professional jury, and public vote—each contributing an equal 33%. The judges’ panel included well-known Dutch performers, such as singer Roxeanne Hazes and actor Jim Bakkum, adding weight to the decision. However, it was ultimately the public’s voice that tipped the scales in favour of Stay Tuned, earning them the top score of 34 points.

Their win was no small feat, as they competed against incredibly strong acts, including Veronika with her song Dreams are Built to Last, which came in second place with 32 points. The evening was a true celebration of young talent, with every participant offering something unique to the stage.

But what made Stay Tuned truly stand out was their ability to connect with the audience. Their song “Music” speaks to the universal joy that sound and rhythm bring to our lives—a theme that resonates with both young and old. With vibrant choreography and catchy hooks, the group lit up the stage and left a lasting impression on everyone watching.
