Sanremo 2025 Shake-Up: New Format and Exciting Changes Unveiled

RAI and Carlo Conti have announced significant changes to the format of the Festival di Sanremo 2025, promising a refreshed and dynamic experience for viewers and participants alike. The renowned festival, known for its pivotal role in the Italian music scene, will introduce several updates to its traditional five-night structure.
Revamped Nightly Line-Up
- First Night: All 24 competing artists will perform their songs. The top 5 will be announced randomly.
- Second Night: 12 artists will perform again, with the top 5 revealed in a random order.
- Third Night: The remaining 12 artists will perform again, with the top 5 announced randomly.
- Fourth Night: Featuring duets or covers, this night’s results won’t count towards the final competition.
- Final Night: All 24 artists will perform once more. The top 5 from the combined rankings will move to the superfinal, where juries and televote will decide the ultimate winner.
Ensuring Fairness and Reducing Bias
Two notable changes are designed to ensure a fairer competition:
- Nightly rankings will be announced in a random order to reduce bias.
- Results from Covers’ Night will not influence the outcome.
These updates aim to create a more balanced competition, ensuring that each artist’s performance is judged on its merit without undue influence from earlier results.
Fewer Participants and Shorter Evenings
The festival will feature 24 songs, down from the 30 of previous years, and the evenings will be shorter, making for a more concise and engaging viewer experience. Additionally, an alternative competition for the Nuove Proposte category will spotlight emerging talent.
Eurovision 2025 Participation Still Unconfirmed
While Sanremo often serves as Italy’s selection method for the Eurovision Song Contest, it is yet to be confirmed if the 2025 winner will represent Italy in Switzerland. Angelina Mango, who represented Italy at Eurovision 2024, finished 7th with her song «La noia,» highlighting the high standards of artists competing at Sanremo.
As anticipation builds for Sanremo 2025, these changes promise to bring a fresh and exciting dynamic to Italy’s beloved music festival.
