Nemo Returns to Biel: A Hero’s Welcome for the Eurovision Champion

After a whirlwind few weeks following their triumphant win at the Eurovision Song Contest, Nemo returned to their hometown of Biel to a hero’s welcome. The city came together to celebrate their local star with a grand festivity in the bustling Burgplatz.
«Je t’aime, Bienne!»
Nemo, visibly moved by the warm reception, shared their heartfelt emotions with the crowd. «Every morning, I walked past this place on my way to school,» they reminisced. «And now, you are all here because of me. It feels like a surreal dream.» Addressing the cheering crowd, they added, «It is a great honour to stand here. Je t’aime, Bienne!«
Fans Serenade the Champion with Their Winning Song
The celebration featured a special performance by students from the music school Nemo once attended, which included a medley of their songs. As Nemo mingled with the crowd, children sang lines from their Eurovision-winning song, «The Code,» creating a touching moment of unity and pride.
Biel Celebrates Its Own
Biel’s mayor, Erich Fehr, expressed the city’s pride in Nemo’s achievement. «The ESC win is like a European championship in music – perhaps even a world championship, as no other continent has anything quite like it,» Fehr said. «Nemo is from Biel, and with their victory, Biel is at the heart of this celebration. We are all enjoying this moment together on Burgplatz.»
A Community’s Pride and Aspirations
Dominique Bühler, President of the Grand Council of Bern, lauded Nemo for winning the hearts of both the jury and the global audience. She also expressed hope that the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest might be hosted in the canton of Bern, further highlighting the region’s cultural significance.
From Triumph to Turbulence: New Opportunities Await
Nemo, reflecting on their journey since the Eurovision win, described the past five weeks as a whirlwind. «The last five weeks have been crazy,» the 24-year-old star admitted. «Everything happened so fast. I was about to go on a road trip to Cannes when my management called about a promo event in London.»
Despite the hectic schedule, Nemo found comfort in London, suggesting a future split between living in the UK and Switzerland. «Life since the ESC win has been intense but also full of opportunities – many doors have opened,» they said.
Looking Ahead
This summer, Nemo is set to perform at various festivals both domestically and internationally, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exciting new chapter in their career. The celebration in Biel was not just a homecoming, but a testament to Nemo’s incredible journey and the bright future that lies ahead.
