Malta Hosts Creative Extravaganza at Eurovision Songwriting Camp 2024

From June 16th to 21st, Malta welcomed 60 artists to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest Music Exchange Camp 2024. This innovative event, organized by PBS, aimed to create a vibrant space for songwriting, nurturing potential hits for the national finals of Eurovision 2025 and Junior Eurovision 2024.

The camp, which included 50 adult participants and 10 junior singers, offered a platform for seasoned artists and fresh talent alike. Although participation in the camp doesn’t guarantee selection for the competitions, the songs created here stand a strong chance of shining on the Eurovision stage.

Notable figures like Christabelle (2018), Dav. Jr (2023), Destiny (2020/21), and Sarah Bonnici (2024) were among the attendees. Also, present were recent national final participants such as Nathan, Stefan Galea, Maxine Pace, Miriana Conte, Lyndsay Pace, MATT BLXCK, and Franklin Calleja, ensuring a dynamic and diverse mix of voices.

Malta, which made its Eurovision debut in 1971, has participated 36 times and reached the Grand Final on 26 occasions. The country achieved its best results with second-place finishes in 2002 and 2005. Despite recent challenges, including a last-place finish in the 2024 semi-final by Sarah Bonnici with «Loop,» Malta continues to show resilience and a commitment to musical excellence.

The enthusiasm and creativity sparked by the songwriting camp reflect Malta’s enduring passion for Eurovision. With a history rich in musical talent and a drive for success, the nation remains a cherished part of the Eurovision family.
