Irish Star Bambie Thug Confirms EBU Investigation into Eurovision 2024 Incidents

Ireland’s Eurovision 2024 representative, Bambie Thug, has confirmed that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is conducting an investigation into several incidents that occurred during the contest in Malmö.
In a candid interview on Ireland AM, Bambie Thug revealed that the investigation was prompted after they approached the EBU concerning comments made by the Israeli broadcaster KAN during their performance in the first semi-final. Bambie Thug believes these comments breached Eurovision’s rules.
The investigation also encompasses other troubling incidents, including alleged undue pressure from the Israeli delegation during the Grand Final’s dress rehearsal. This pressure reportedly prevented Bambie Thug from participating in the flag parade. On the day of the Grand Final, a meeting was held between the EBU and various national delegations, where it is reported that several broadcasters, including Ireland, considered withdrawing from the contest.
Bambie Thug stated, «I cannot provide further details about the events in Malmö until the investigation is concluded.»
Representing Ireland with the song “Doomsday Blue”, Bambie Thug achieved a total of 278 points, securing 6th place. This marks Ireland’s best Eurovision result since Eamonn Toal’s 6th place finish with “Millennium of Love” in 2000.
The outcome of the EBU’s investigation is highly anticipated, as it may have significant implications for future contests. Meanwhile, Bambie Thug’s impressive performance has revitalised Ireland’s Eurovision hopes, setting a high standard for future representatives.
