EBU Initiates Independent Probe into Eurovision 2024 Allegations

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has launched an independent investigation in response to reports of an «unsafe working environment» during Eurovision 2024 held in Malmö. Multiple delegations, including those from the Netherlands, Ireland, Switzerland, and Portugal, have filed complaints regarding conditions behind the scenes of the prestigious song contest. In total, more than 13 complaints were lodged by various delegations after the event concluded.
Aran Bade voiced frustration, referring to the EBU’s flag statement as merely scratching the surface of the issues.
The EBU has confirmed its commitment to improving its services and events. «To further enhance the Eurovision Song Contest, we have commissioned an independent expert to review the events of ESC 2024 in Malmö. The insights gained will be shared with the EBU’s governing bodies to support ongoing enhancements of this global event,» the organization stated.
AVROTROS is currently considering its response to the independent investigation. Additionally, the Norwegian broadcaster has disclosed their intention to participate in Eurovision 2025, contingent upon the investigation’s findings and subsequent actions taken.
