A Quiet Start to Junior Eurovision 2024: Madrid’s Opening Ceremony Goes Private

This year’s Junior Eurovision is shaping up to be an event like no other. With the excitement of the competition building up in Madrid, RTVE announced a surprising shift: instead of the public, buzz-filled Opening Ceremony we’re all used to, this year will begin with a private, behind-closed-doors reception for the delegations.

The recent storms that hit parts of Spain hard, especially Valencia and Andalusia, have understandably made this quieter start a thoughtful choice. RTVE shared that, in light of the circumstances, they’re adjusting the event with a more intimate welcome for the artists and their teams.

Still, as we approach 16 November, Madrid is pulsing with Eurovision spirit. Although the usual broadcast of the Opening Ceremony won’t happen this year, fans in the city—and worldwide—are gearing up for what promises to be a spectacular week of events, culminating in the big show at La Caja Mágica.

For Eurovision fans, the countdown is on. Even if this start is quieter, we know Junior Eurovision will bring the same magic and surprises, as it does every year.
